AdBlock360 makes the following system changes to ensure effective ad-blocking:
AdBlock360 uses the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) to ensure comprehensive, system-wide filtering of network traffic. Instead of configuring a proxy, the application operates at a lower level by implementing a kernel-mode WFP driver. This driver interacts with the Windows Filtering Platform, allowing AdBlock360 to monitor, filter, modify, or block network traffic at various levels of the network stack. The WFP driver intercepts raw network traffic and streams this low-level data to the AdBlock360 Service for high-level processing and decryption/re-encryption. This mechanism provides system-wide ad blocking across all browsers and apps on the PC.
AdBlock360 installs a self-signed root certificate to filter intrusive ads, including HTTPS-encrypted traffic. This enables the application to decrypt and analyze browser traffic locally without transmitting sensitive data to external servers.
Potential risks associated with installing a root certificate include the fact that it may expose encrypted traffic to local software on your device. Furthermore, the misuse of this certificate could theoretically compromise secure connections. AdBlock360 mitigates these risks through the following key measures:
Yes, AdBlock360 modifies website content to remove intrusive ads and trackers, improving your browsing experience.
